Endodontics

If you have severely abscessed teeth, a root canal can be performed to save the tooth. It is always the goal of Dr. Knight to keep your natural tooth whenever it is possible. At Knight Dental Care we use the latest dental technology to perform thorough root canal therapy.

What is root canal therapy?

The first step in performing a root canal is to remove the infection and nerve tissue from the tooth. Once Dr. Knight has thoroughly cleaned the infected tooth, the tooth is sealed and a crown is added onto the tooth to give it strength. The crown color will be matched with neighboring teeth to be sure it looks as natural as it can.

How do I know if I need root canal therapy?

The symptoms that can lead to a root canal are:

  • Severe pain in the tooth and cheek
  • Swollen and red gums
  • Tooth discoloration
  • Infection of the tooth that is visible to the naked eye

Tooth decay or damage can cause infection to set into a tooth. Most of the time a filling or crown is all that is needed to treat it. Once the tooth is severely infected a root canal procedure is the only option for saving the natural tooth.

Please call Knight Dental Care if you notice any of the above symptoms. The sooner Dr. Knight can evaluate the tooth the more likely he will be able to save the natural tooth.
